My name is Wendy Green
In 1982, I was a single mother of two small children. I did not have a college degree. I was living in government-subsidized housing. I was working as a computer operator at a bicycle brake manufacturing company. And my boss gave me a gift. He told me that I could NOT be trained to be a computer programmer because I was hired to be a clerk!
How is that a gift? The fact that he was going to deny my chance to grow in my job was the impetus I needed to go back to school. Three years later, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
Before discovering my passion for coaching, I had a long career in technical training and pre-sales support. I earned a certification in Change Management from Georgetown University in 2001 and ran a successful business providing after-school art enrichment for kids, for which I was awarded Franchisee of the Year in 2009.
I became a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) in 2013 after completing a rigorous program with the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) and I have worked with people in work transitions as well as post-career transitions.
In March of 2020, I was laid off from my job as a Center Director of a Sylvan Learning Center because of Covid. I knew I still had a lot to give, and I knew there were a lot of other people from my generation experiencing a sense of loss and in need of inspiration. That is when I decided to start the Hey, Boomer™ broadcasts.
I believe I am on a journey to living a completely fulfilling and successful life. It is a continuous journey with a roadmap of my own design. My roadmap consists of goals, overcoming obstacles, support systems, pushing my comfort zone and empowering thoughts. It also includes time to help others and give back to society. To be complete, in my definition, involves being as successful as you want to be, and being a contributing member of society.
